Reflections

“As we come to grips with our selfishness and stupidity; we make friends with the imposter and accept that we are impoverished and broken, and realize that, if we were not, we would be God. The art of gentleness toward ourselves leads to being gentle toward others. Hatred of the impostor is actually self-hatred. The impostor and I constitute one person. Contempt for the false self gives vent to hostility, which manifests as general irritability--an irritation at the same faults in others that we hate in ourselves. Self-hatred always results in some form of self-destructive behavior. Accepting the reality of our sinfulness means accepting our authentic self. Judas could not face his shadow; Peter could. The latter befriended the impostor within; the former raged against him.” - Brennan Manning, Abba’s Child

RENEWAL

Prayer of Confession

Leader: Let us come to the Lord in his majesty and mercy, confessing our sins, trusting in his grace for forgiveness and his new life in us.

All: We confess to you, O God, we have sinned against heaven and in your sight; and are not worthy to be called your children. We have forgotten you; and have broken your holy laws; we have been wayward and disobedient; we have been selfish and unkind. For the sake of your dear Son our Savior we beseech you to pardon our sins; to make clean our hearts within us; and to grant us your peace. Amen.

Silent Confession of Sin

Assurance of Pardon

Leader: If you are trusting in Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and acceptance with God, hear these words of his pardoning grace: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9

All: Thanks be to God.
