Call to Worship & Prayer of Invocation

Exodus 34:6-7; Hebrews 12:22-24, 28-29

“The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty,”... “But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel...Let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”

Let us pray,

O Father Most High, whose dwelling place is beyond the heavens,

O Lord Incomparable, far beyond our loftiest thoughts,

Gather us together in the name of Jesus whom the angels adore as the Son of the Most High, for his name is above every name.

Lead us in our worship, that all that we do might be undertaken at your bidding, filled with your grace, directed by your wisdom, informed by your truth, and accomplished to your glory.

Through Christ, our Lord, whom with you and the Holy Spirit, O Father, we constantly bless and glorify. One eternal God, age after age. Amen.

Hymn of Praise    No.47 God the Lord Is King   Tune: ANDREWS

God the Lord is King: before him earth with all your nations, wait!

Where the cherubim adore him sits our God in royal state.

He is holy; he is holy; blessed, only Potentate!

God the Lord is King of glory; Zion, tell the world his fame;

Ancient Israel, the story of his faithfulness proclaim:

He is holy; he is holy; holy is his awesome name.

Laws divine to them were spoken from the pillar of the cloud;

Sacred precepts quickly broken; fiercely then his vengeance flowed.

He is holy; he is holy; to the dust their hearts were bowed.

But their Father, God, forgave them when they sought his face once more:

Ever ready was to save them, tenderly did he restore.

He is holy; he is holy; we too will his grace implore.

Prayer of Confession of Sin & Supplication

Let us together seek the Lord while he may be found. Let us seek him who is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins. Let us seek him for his grace and mercy to help us in our weaknesses that we may live by faith in Christ.

Let us pray.

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and there is no health in us. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us. And grant, O most merciful Father, for Jesus’ sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous and joyful life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

Let us continue to confess our sins in silent prayer to our Lord who loves us and shows us mercy.

If you are trusting in Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins and his everlasting life, hear his words of pardoning grace and give thanks offering yourself to him in worship: “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:8-12).

Hymn of the Gospel    Thou Lovely Source of True Delight (Indelible Grace)

Thou lovely source of true delight whom I unseen adore

Unveil Thy beauties to my sight that I might love Thee more,

Oh that I might love Thee more.

Thy glory o’er creation shines but in Thy sacred Word

I read, in fairer, brighter lines my bleeding, dying Lord,

See my bleeding, dying Lord.

‘Tis here, whene’er my comforts droop and sin and sorrow rise

Thy love with cheering beams of hope my fainting heart supplies,

Oh my fainting heart’s supplied.

But ah! Too soon the pleasing scene is clouded o’er with pain

My gloomy fears rise dark between and I again complain,

Oh and I again complain.

Jesus, my Lord, my life, my light, Oh come with blissful ray

Break radiant through the shades of night and chase my fears away,

Won’t You chase my fears away.

Then shall my soul with rapture trace the wonders of Thy love

But the full glories of Thy face are only known above,

They are only known above.

Scripture Reading & Sermon

Psalm 4:1-8 “Praying Our Emotions: Anger”

Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!

    You have given me relief when I was in distress.

    Be gracious to me and hear my prayer!

2 O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame?

    How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah

3 But know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself;

    the Lord hears when I call to him.

4 Be angry, and do not sin;

    ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah

5 Offer right sacrifices,

    and put your trust in the Lord.

6 There are many who say, “Who will show us some good?

    Lift up the light of your face upon us, O Lord!”

7 You have put more joy in my heart

    than they have when their grain and wine abound.

8 In peace I will both lie down and sleep;

    for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Hymn of Commitment   My Jesus I Love Thee (Red Mountain Music)

My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine; for thee all the follies of sin I resign.

My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art thou; If ever I loved thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

I love thee because thou hast first loved me,

and purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree.

I love thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow; if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

I'll love thee in life, I will love thee in death;

and praise thee as long as thou lendest me breath;

and say, when the death-dew lies cold on my brow:

if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

In mansions of glory and endless delight, I'll ever adore thee in heaven so bright;

I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow: if ever I loved thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you all. Amen.
