PRELUDE

WELCOME AND PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP

PRAISE

HYMN OF PRAISE No. 733 Doxology

CALL TO WORSHIP  Colossians 1:2, 15-23

Leader: He [Jesus Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,

Congregation: We believe by faith and hope steadfastly in the gospel of Jesus Christ which we have heard and which has been proclaimed in all the earth.

All: Grace to you and peace from God our Father.

SILENT PRAYERS OF PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING

I praise you the Lord of righteousness and justice. The earth is full of your steadfast love. Your eye is on me for I fear you and hope in your steadfast love. I will praise you while I have my being for my heart is glad and rejoices in you.

HYMN OF PRAISE  No. 184 The King of Love My Shepherd Is (vs 1) Tune: St Columba

RENEWAL

CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON

Leader: O Lord, it is good for us to see ourselves as we are. Sin is our greatest evil but you are our greatest good.

All: We do not seek to congratulate ourselves before you or one another. My family, my church and my community are all hindered by my sins. Let us not look at other people and think ourselves good in comparison. We have sinned. Have mercy on us.

Leader: All good people are not as good as you or what you desire. We are not consistent in following your ways of righteousness and holiness.

All: Show us how to know when something is evil, when we think it is right and good. Show us when we make something the law from our own desire for peace, prosperity, power and prominence. Give us grace to turn to you, to recount our need for you, and to hunger for your ways made known to us in your Word.

Silent Prayer

Leader: If you are trusting in Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins, hear his words of pardoning grace: For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake. For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. - 2 Corinthians 4:5-6

All: Thanks be to God!

HYMN OF RESPONSE No. 251  Beneath the Cross of Jesus

COMMITMENT

SCRIPTURE READING Psalm 36

1 Transgression speaks to the wicked deep in his heart;

    there is no fear of God before his eyes.

2 For he flatters himself in his own eyes

    that his iniquity cannot be found out and hated.

3 The words of his mouth are trouble and deceit;

    he has ceased to act wisely and do good.

4 He plots trouble while on his bed;

    he sets himself in a way that is not good;

    he does not reject evil.

5 Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens,

    your faithfulness to the clouds.

6 Your righteousness is like the mountains of God;

    your judgments are like the great deep;

    man and beast you save, O LORD.

7 How precious is your steadfast love, O God!

    The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.

8 They feast on the abundance of your house,

    and you give them drink from the river of your delights.

9 For with you is the fountain of life;

    in your light do we see light.

10 Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you,

    and your righteousness to the upright of heart!

11 Let not the foot of arrogance come upon me,

    nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.

12 There the evildoers lie fallen;

    they are thrust down, unable to rise.
