“A test is a situation that God sends or allows in our life with the intention of revealing our loyalties, motivations, character, and commitment to Him and helping to purify, strengthen, and mature us.” - Thomas A. Tarrants
“God has not been trying an experiment on my faith or love in order to find out their quality. He knew it already. It was I who didn't. In this trial He makes us occupy the dock, the witness box, and the bench all at once. He always knew that my temple was a house of cards. His only way of making me realize the fact was to knock it down.”
- C.S. Lewis, A Grief Observed
WELCOME AND PREPARATION FOR WORSHIP
CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 145:8-13
Leader:The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
Congregation: The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.
Leader: All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your saints shall bless you! They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, to make known to the children of man your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Congregation: Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.
HYMN OF PRAISE Almighty God (McCracken)
INVOCATION AND PRAYER OF PRAISE
HYMN OF PRAISE No. 733 Doxology
CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION AND ASSURANCE OF PARDON
Leader: Let us together seek the Lord while he may be found. Let us seek him who is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins. Let us seek him for his grace and mercy to help us in our weaknesses that we may live by faith in Christ.
All: Almighty God, in raising Jesus from the grave, you destroyed the power of sin and death. We confess that we remain captive to doubt and fear, bound by our own selfishness and sin. We waste your gifts, wander from your ways, and forget your love. We overlook our neighbor, and are constantly focused on ourselves. Forgive us, God of mercy. Help us to trust your power to change our lives and make us new, that we may know the joy of the fullness of life given in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord. Amen.
Leader: Let us continue to confess our sins in silent prayer as we turn to Jesus in faith.
Leader: If you are trusting in Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins, hear his words of pardoning grace: I acknowledge my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. - Psalm 32:5
Leader: This is the good news.
All: Thanks be to God.
